How a split type aircon is installed
A split type comes in two parts, and most of the work is in the bit nobody sees afterwards. The indoor unit goes on the wall. The outdoor unit sits on a bracket or a slab outside, and the two are joined by copper pipes, a drain hose and the power line.
- Choose the wall. It has to carry the weight and give the air somewhere to go.
- Mark and drill the pipe run, with the drain sloping so water leaves on its own.
- Fix the bracket, hang the indoor unit, and set the outdoor one where it can breathe.
- Flare and connect the copper, then vacuum the line so no air or moisture stays trapped inside.
- Open the valves, check for leaks, run the unit and measure the cooling before we pack up.
The vacuum is the step a rushed job skips. Air and damp left in the pipes make the compressor work harder for the same cold, and you will not notice on the day it goes in. You notice later.
Window type is a shorter job, and two things decide it
One box, one opening, so there is no pipe run to plan. What matters is the slope and the seal. The frame has to hold the weight without flexing, the unit sits with a slight tilt to the outside so condensate drains away from the room, and the gaps get packed so warm air and insects stay where they belong.
In an older house we check the socket too. An aircon sharing a line with the fridge is the one that trips the breaker on a hot afternoon.
Questions people ask first
- How long does a split type installation take?
- It depends on the pipe run and where the outdoor unit can go. A second floor, a long run or a wall that needs a different bracket all add to it. We tell you which job yours is after the site check, before any work starts.
- Will you install a unit I bought myself?
- Yes, new or secondhand, any brand. We check the unit is complete and the pipes reach before we begin, because a missing bracket found halfway through is what turns one visit into two.
- Can you move the aircon we already have?
- That is the relocation job on this page. We take it down, move it, and set it up again in the new place, with a cooling test at the end so you know it survived the trip.
- What do you look at before drilling anything?
- Where the air will actually reach, whether the wall or ceiling can take the mount, how the drain will fall, and what else is on the electrical circuit. Getting those wrong is what makes a unit noisy, wet or weak later on.
