Reprocess, or just a top-up?

People ask for one and need the other often enough that it is worth separating them. Charging puts refrigerant back in. A reprocess empties the circuit first, pulls the air and the moisture out of it, and then charges it. The second exists because the first does nothing for a system that has been opened, contaminated, or run flat.

Cooling faded over months and nothing else has been done to the unit: a charge is usually the job, once whatever let the gas out has been found.
The unit has been dismantled, moved, or left open at the pipes: there is air and damp in the lines now, and gas on top of that does not hold.
It has been charged once already and gone weak again: the gas is leaving somewhere, and more of it is not the answer.
